COGNICA, a local company, has been awarded work to support the prestigious Hercules Project at Lyneham.
COGNICA Ltd, based at Blagrove in Swindon, is extremely pleased to have been awarded a contract to manage and deliver the Operation and Maintenance documentation for the Hercules project in Lyneham.
The project is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Kier and will see the £121m redevelopment of the MOD Lyneham Airbase. The project will deliver new single-living accommodation and training facilities for military personnel. This will include a purpose built enhanced outdoor training area; medical centre and a museum for Corps of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), whose headquarters will be at the base from 2015.
The Defence College of Technical Training will provide training facilities in one location for all three Armed Forces for the first time in the UK. It will bring together more than 1,100 trainees and 800 staff from the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The redevelopment will upgrade and refurbish existing buildings as well as providing some new-build facilities. In total more than 73,000 square metres of existing building stock will be refurbished and 56,000 square metres of new buildings will be constructed.
The project, which is being delivered by Hercules for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, is due for completion in the autumn of 2015 when the first staff and students will arrive at the college.
COGNICA’s Managing Director Mark Hitchmough said “COGNICA has worked on some very large and complex construction projects, including Schools, Prisons, Rail Depots, Hospitals and Major Office Developments, but we are very excited to be working on a local project of such a large scale”
