COGNICA Awarded BIM ISO19650 certification for the sixth year running

BIM Accreditation & Services

BIM Certified

Over the past week COGNICA have undergone our annual BSI BIM audit and have passed again with no NCRs or Observations. This now means COGNICA have held BIM Certification with BSI for the last 6 years. Originally assessed against PAS 1192 this has now been updated to ISO 19650 as of September 2021. COGNICA have worked with BSI to define our scope and do have a bespoke certificate due to the nature of our works, see extract below.

BS EN ISO 19650-2:2018 Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) - Information management using building information modelling. Part 2: Delivery phase of the assets.

Appointed Party Providing Task Information Management and Data Compilation Services including collection, collation and delivery of operation and maintenance information under Tier 1 instructions for projects in accordance BS EN ISO 19650-2:2018, incorporating the UK National Annex.

What can we do for you?

For construction projects, COGNICA will extract the BIM Naming information from the project BIM Execution Plan and facilitate the naming of documents throughout the collation process. If not present, COGNICA will create an easy-to-use BIM Naming ‘poster’ which automates the files names to assist the information providers with naming their documents.

During collation COGNICA carry out quality checks on the documentation to ensure they have been uploaded into the correct sections and also check the BIM naming convention has been followed. Any documents found that are not correct are rejected and steps taken with the provider to correct them and resubmit.

At the sales stage COGNICA will also review the BEP and any client/employers’ requirements to check if there are any specific deliverables that relate to the delivery of the building manuals. This may include the need for a specific folder/paper format of a printed manual or the inclusion of editable versions of drawings alongside their PDF counterparts.

Delivery of BIM projects

As part of the delivery of our O&M manuals we can offer a BIM compliant ‘Extended Mode’ delivery. This delivery output contains organised folders in which all the individual files are held, each following the naming convention. In addition, a datasheet containing all the files, names and other inputted metadata is issued alongside the folders. One benefit of this is that the files can be easily identified and linked to a BIM model/3D scan of a building if desired.

We have recently also delivered a single rolled up PDF and a ‘Print Ready’ set of PDFs named according to the convention as an alternative method of delivery.

All of our projects are delivered on USB sticks at the Final issue, if received beforehand we are able to also include a copy of the BIM model and any other BIM material required for handover. BIM information files sizes can be very large and COGNICA do have high-capacity USBs available in this instance.
